Just Call Him 'Q'

When I say 'Q,' I'm not referring to James Bond's incorrigible weapons and technology expert, I'm talking about LA Clippers' shooting guard Quentin Richardson, a former rising star who was left for dead by most of the basketball world after a miserable 2002-2003 season. Let it be said right here and now: barring injury (he sprained his ankle in the first quarter of Monday's game), Richardson has a chance to be the biggest breakout story in a year that looks like it will be filled with them. Going into Monday night's game, the best shooting guard in LA (just checking to see if you were reading) is averaging an inspirational 22 points and 7 boards a night. Richardson is listed at a modest 6'5", but he routinely outboards many of the league's big men on a nightly basis, particularly on the offensive glass. Though his jump shot is a bit erratic at times, the rest of his game is amazingly polished and smooth, and if you watch him play, you're guaranteed to be blown away by his creativity and power going to the basket. Quite simply, if you don't like watching this guy play, I'm pretty sure you and I are not friends. Do I watch too much basketball? Absolutely. Do I have a slightly unhealthy love for the Clippers? You bet I do. The Clippers are America's team. Most of you just haven't realized it yet.
